Project for the large garden of a classical villa on the hills outside Turin. The style of the villa influenced the design of the exterior, which features a selection of “classical” plants, and an ancient technique for subdividing the space: dry stone walls of local materials elegantly retain the different levels, defining soft gravel walks and intimate corners. The islands of garden formed in this way are bordered by Buxus sempervirens hedges and beds of perennials with different flowering times. Large Magnolia stellata and a spectacular specimen of M. Grandiflora further add to the charm of the walks. Hydrangea varieties are planted in the shaded areas, and around the bases of existing trees. At the centre of the garden, a large stone pool contains Nelumbo nucifera and varieties of water-lilies. On the level nearest the house, a wrought iron gazebo of classical design provides a sheltered eating area.
